The CAROBRONZE GmbH
1926 Founded by the merchant, Robert CARO as “SPEZIALBRONZE GMBH“ in Berlin. Later at the Carowerk in Vienna, Mr. Georg Bühler developed a process which made it possible to efficiently manufacture pre-materials through cold forming for different slide bearing materials in the form of thin-walled bronze tubes, which achieved the highest level of uniformity and homogeneity. Building on this process enabled the manufacture of "Carobronze", which is still unsurpassed today as a material for slide bearings in the high-performance sectors and which represents a significant mainstay of the company
1928 Registration of the name "Caro" as a trademark
1931 Publishing of patented text on the manufacturing processes for Carobronze. Alongside mechanical engineering and vehicle construction, Carobronze was quickly deployed in the aviation industry (aircraft engines).
1946 After the end of the War, the company resumed activities in Berlin. Carowerk was sold along with CAROBRONZE GMBH to Steyr Daimler Puch AG and Böhler Edelstahlwerke AG
1951 Carobronze could once again be imported from Austria
1961 Enzesfeld - Caro Metallwerke AG resulted from the merger of Enzesfelder Metallwerke AG and Carowerk. Production was moved to Enzesfeld.
1985 Extension of the product programme through the sale of copper products from Buntmetall Amstetten GmbH
1989 Founding of the holding company, AUSTRIA BUNTMETALL
1995 Certification of CAROBRONZE GMBH in Berlin and Wendelstein
The Prometa Metal GmbH
1962 Founding of Prometa Metall GmbH by J. G. Schwietzke Metallwerke GmbH for the sale of non-ferrous metal semi-finished products and special alloys
1979 Takeover by Eisen und Metall AG in Gelsenkirchen.
1980 100% takeover of Eisen und Metall AG by the Hoesch company. Development of the sale of aluminium semi-finished products.
1990 Takeover of the Hoesch company by Krupp
1994 Based on the reorganisation of Krupp Hoesch, Prometa was taken over by the AUSTRIA BUNTMETALL Group.
